The Inkscape team has officially launched Inkscape 1.3, a new and improved version of their free and open-source vector graphics editor for GNU/Linux, Windows, and macOS.
Focusing on "helping users get organized and work more efficiently", the release brings several new tools and updates to existing ones, performance enhancements, and more. One of the most notable features introduced in 1.3 is Shape Builder, a new tool for making Boolean operations more accessible that enables one to combine vector shapes by clicking and dragging them, with the paths retaining their original color.
Another great feature introduced with the release is a new Document Resources dialog, which shows statistics about your document, allowing you to efficiently organize your Inkscape documents. Essentially, the tool is a checklist of resources contained in your document, including patterns, filters, colors, fonts, symbols, markers, and more.
Inkscape 1.3 also comes with a new Layers and Objects dialog window, which allows one to use the slider to adjust the opacity or blending mode of a layer and drag multiple objects to hide or lock them in a single swipe.
Furthermore, the release brings a new Pattern Editor that enables you to adjust a pattern. With this tool, you can customize the shape, size, and rotation of patterns, change colors for your version of a pattern and adapt the offset, and more.
The release also features:
- Font Collections.
- Improved performance thanks to fully asynchronous, multithreaded rendering.
- LPE dialog redesigned.
- Improved On-Canvas Pattern Editing.
- Better PDF import.
- Page margins and bleed.
- Syntax highlighting in XML Editor.
- And more.
