Inscryption Wins Game Of The Year At GDC Awards 2022

The game has also received the grand prize at the IGF Awards becoming the first title in the history of the events to win both top prizes.

Daniel Mullins’ indie hit Inscryption won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize at the Independent Games Festival Awards as well as the Game of the Year award at the Game Developers Choice Awards which are annually presented at the Game Developers Conference. The title that represents a blend of deck-building roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror became the first one in the history of the events to win both top prizes.

International Choice Awards Network (ICAN), an invitation-only organization that consists of various game creators from different parts of the industry, was responsible for selecting the winners of the Game Developers Choice Awards.

Apart from Inscryption, Insomniac Games' Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was among the Game Developers Choice Awards winners taking prizes for the best visual art as well as the best technology. Unpacking, a puzzle video game developed by Witch Beam, received the Best Audio award and the Innovation Award. Double Fine Productions' Psychonauts 2 won the Best Narrative award, while It Takes Two from Hazelight Studios picked the Best Design award.

The Best Debut Award was taken by Iron Gate Studio which is responsible for work on Valheim, an exploration and survival video game inspired by Norse mythology. The title also received the Audience Award, which was selected through a public vote.

"It’s always wonderful to be able to honor these individuals, who have created some of the most innovative and entertaining games from the past year, but it’s been extra special to be able to hold the awards ceremony in person again tonight," shared Katie Stern, a VP of Entertainment Media at Informa Tech. "The return of the Game Developers Choice Awards and GDC to the Moscone made this a memorable evening that we were delighted to share with such talented people."
