Inside DOT4's Latest Flower Animation Workflow
DOT4 explored organic motion design inside Blender.
For Valentine's Day this year, DOT4 Studio explored the art of organic growth using Blender 5.0 and Geometry Nodes. DOT4's past projects focused on hard-surface modeling and animating static objects, and this project deliberately embraced flow and living movement.
Achieving this meant deep research and development, creating custom setups for organic deformation, procedural growth, layered animation, and nuanced shading to bring each flower to life. Watch the Petals animation below:

In this project, DOT4 pushed Geometry Nodes by stacking matrix transforms to create bendable and simulated skeletons, generating pseudo-weighted meshes for each petal, and then combining everything into a complex cloth simulation.
