IO Interactive Plans "A Big Trilogy" for Their Young James Bond Game
"I just hope we'll do a thing that will define James Bond in gaming for years to come."
It’s been quite a while since we last heard of any news or updates about Project 007, IO Interactive's James Bond game, which was unveiled four years ago. Despite its 2022 financial report saying the game would probably not be ready before 2025, fans couldn’t help asking for some information on various platforms. Finally, in a recent interview, CEO Hakan Abrak talked about the game’s development and teased about sharing “a lot of cool stuff” soon.
When speaking with IGN, Abrak expressed the team’s excitement about this project, which involves creating an “original story” of young Bond from the ground up.
“…we actually got to do an original story. So it's not a gamification of a movie. It's completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future. And equally important and exciting, it's a new Bond. It's a Bond we built from ground up for gamers. It's extremely exciting with all the tradition and all the history there is there together to work on this together with the family of creating a young Bond for gamers; a Bond that the gamers can call their own and grow with."

This echoes the information we got to know last year, shared by two developers from IOI, that the game delves into the story of "the first Bond and how [he] becomes the secret agent that he is.”
Abrak continues to discuss the 15-year gap between the last game of the James Bond IP, GoldenEye, saying that it could be a strength because the IP is not “overexposed in gaming.” He then went on to share the vision for the project:
“I don’t want to speak too big about it, but I just hope we’ll do a thing that will define James Bond in gaming for years to come. And that is not only one game, but that we create a universe for gamers to own for many years to come that we can grow with that next to the Bond on the movies.”
Despite not being hyped much, the CEO affirms that the game production has been “going amazingly well,” and it shouldn’t take long for the community to hear more from the developer when they are ready. Last year, the Hitman series developer secured the 007’s license to create "multiple Bond games." So fans might just need a bit more patience to learn what the developers have cooked for this huge IP.
