The game can boast "potentially twice as many players."
Hazelight Studios has revealed that its action-adventure game It Takes Two has sold over 10 million copies. The developer announced the new sales figure on Twitter thanking the game's audience for their support and love.
Since It Takes Two is exclusively a cooperative game "potentially twice as many players", according to the developer, experienced the adventures of May and Cody which makes the milestone even more impressive.
It Takes Two launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in March 2021 and in a month after its release, the game managed to sell 1 million copies.
The previous sales update took place in July 2022 – at the time, Hazelight announced that the game sold over 7 million copies. This indicates that the award-winning cooperative game, which won "Game of the Year" at The Game Awards 2021, sold an additional 3 million copies in the past seven months. During this period, It Takes Two was also released on Nintendo Switch in November 2022 which apparently contributed to the game's player base.
It Takes Two follows Cody and May, the parents of a little girl, who are on the brink of divorce. Through magic, they are transformed into dolls and set off on a journey to prevent their separation. The game requires cooperation and teamwork as the characters navigate challenges and work on repairing their relationship with the help of Dr. Hakim's magical book. In order to revert back to their human form, they must overcome obstacles and succeed in mending their relationship.
The story of Cody and May is currently being adapted for a movie and series by the developer Hazelight Studios and dj2 Entertainment. Little is known about the project now except for the fact that the writers behind Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Pat Casey and John Miller will take part in the adaptation.
According to Variety, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions has also joined the production of the movie. It is also rumored that Johnson may potentially star in the film, although this has not been confirmed yet.
