In a recent interview, Jim Ryan, a soon-to-become ex-boss of Sony, commented on the big Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Discussing his stance against Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, especially given Sony's history of acquiring companies for PlayStation exclusives, Ryan clarified that Activision Blizzard's scale and influence set it apart. He also highlighted the significance of the Call of Duty franchise as a key factor in distinguishing this acquisition.
"We were absolutely thrilled to be able to negotiate a deal with Microsoft to ensure that the franchise remains available on PlayStation platforms for the next 10 years," Ryan shared. "And that was very important to us and we're very happy to have done that deal."
Regarding the timing of the agreement, as you may recall, Sony didn't immediately agree to the deal but only did so after Microsoft's negotiations with the FTC regulator, Ryan clarified that the final agreement differed from the initial one. It seems that Sony eventually secured more favorable terms over time.
Speaking of Ryan, this month, he is set to leave his post and transfer all of the duties to Hiroki Totoki.
