John Romero Works on New Shooter That Includes Ideas from His Canceled Game
The developer said that it would be a much smaller game, aimed at offering a completely new experience, much like Elden Ring did.
John Romero, one of the DOOM creators, revealed that he's working on a new game that incorporates elements from his previously canceled project.
In July, the developer's studio Romero Games lost publisher funding for its in-development title, leading to the project's cancellation. Recently, at Salón del Videojuego de Madrid (Madrid Video Game Show), the developer shared that he had been working on a brand-new, "completely redesigned" project that still retains some features of the canceled game. "The new game has nothing to do with the previous game, but it incorporates a lot of the elements that we had in the previous game," he said, adding: "We're not starting at ground zero."
Romero also said that the team is "really excited about the new design." The developer didn't share many specific details about the new project, except that it would be "a very much smaller game," aimed to provide players with a new experience similar to what Elden Ring did at its time:
The cancellation of the game in July even sparked the news of the studio being shut down, but Romero Games wasn't closed, according to the studio's official statement.
