One of the DOOM creators is having a hard time.

Romero Games, a game development studio founded by John Romero, one of the DOOM creators, and his wife, has been struck by sudden news: its publisher canceled funding for its game and several other unannounced projects at other studios.
"This was a strategic decision made at a high level within the publisher, well above our visibility or control. We deeply wish there had been something, anything, we could have done to prevent this outcome," the studio shared on X/Twitter. "This absolutely isn't a reflection of our team's work, performance, or the quality of the project itself. We hit every milestone on time, every time, consistently received high praise, and easily passed all our internal gates. We are incredibly proud of the work being done, and of the talented team behind it. The best we've worked with."
Romero Games is evaluating its next steps and working to support its team.
Now, you might be wondering who that "major publisher," in Romero's words, is. Many players and artists are sure it's Xbox, and there is some evidence to support that conclusion.
Sarah Sherlock, an audio designer at Romero Games, expressed her disappointment at not being able to work with "this incredible team and this incredible project." The same day, she shared that she'd been laid off by Microsoft in a new wave of job cuts we already know about, so you can connect the dots.
Romero Games is currently working on a multiplayer FPS, but this news might force it back on its plans.
