Save your saves and holidays.
If your Christmas holidays were tarnished by the Baldur's Gate 3 progress you've lost on Xbox because of a bug, you might find this news delightful. As some players have unfortunately noticed, you sometimes can't access your saves after saving and then exiting the game.
According to Larian Studios, "the game thinks the save was successful but due to a firmware issue, the save file is not fully committed to disk yet," so it looks like an Xbox issue, and Microsoft is apparently working on it. While it's busy, the studio is suggesting a workaround via its cross-save system.
- Create a Larian account here.
- Go to the options menu from the main menu. Under gameplay, activate cross-saves, linking your Larian and Xbox accounts.
- From now on, your last 5 saves will automatically be uploaded to the Larian servers. It is important that you do not exit the game before the upload is finished. The upload is finished when the message “Syncing cloud save” is no longer visible.
- If the firmware bug occurs, you will need to re-activate the cross-save functionality in the options screen. This will give you access to the save games that were successfully uploaded.
Hopefully, this will help Xbox players enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 to the fullest.
"We completely understand that losing progress is frustrating, and unacceptable," Larian commented. "We’re doing everything we can to ensure this problem – which we understand is unique – is resolved as quickly as possible, and we’ll keep you up to date with progress."
Baldur's Gate 3 was suddenly released for Xbox Series X|S at the beginning of December, and while it won't join the Game Pass, the title has received plenty of praise on the platform. Larian's RPG has recently become the Game of the Year once again, this time at the 2023 Steam Awards, following its success at The Game Awards and Golden Joystick.
