Larian Wasn't Trying to Shock Players with Its New Game's Trailer

But it still did.

Larian

At TGA 2025, Larian Studios revealed a trailer for its next Divinity game, showing a person being burned at the stake during some kind of celebration. Apparently, some people found it gory and violent and accused the studio of trying to attract attention with pure shock value.

However, Larian's publishing director Michael Douse says it's not true, and the team hoped to resonate with the audience intellectually.

"The phrase 'treating the audience with a level of intellectual respect' came up a lot in planning. It isn't about trying to shock them, it's about trying to match their powers of comprehension so that it resonates. We know people are capable of appreciating a three dimensional world," he shared.

The new game is simply called Divinity and will not be Original Sin 3. It is Larian's "biggest game ever" and is "even larger than Baldur's Gate 3," so we have something exciting to look forward to.

There is no information about the release date yet, but the studio has been working on the game for a couple of years already.
