Last Flag from Imagine Dragons Singer Ends Support Weeks After Launch

"We don't want to kill our game."

Sometimes popular names don't help engagement: Last Flag developers Night Street Games know it too well. The studio was co-created by Dan Reynolds, Imagine Dragons' singer, but its Capture the Flag game, released on April 14, is already getting ready to stop post-launch support.

The reason is simple: Last Flag failed to attract any meaningful audience: it peaked at 558 concurrent players and has been getting fewer than 100 since, which is terrible news for a multiplayer experience.

"Making Last Flag has been a dream come true for our team. Although our player count is not currently where we need it to be to support additional development beyond our upcoming planned patches, we are shifting our focus to make sure those updates give tons of value and control to our players so the game can continue to thrive and grow," the team said on Steam.

Over the next few months, the game will receive a new character, a new map, a new game mode, cosmetics, leaderboards, and fresh rulesets for custom game lobbies. The team will focus on replayability, community support, and "empowering our players to write the next chapter of Last Flag with persistent lobbies and unique game rules inspired by some of the games we love like GoldenEye, Team Fortress 2, and Super Smash Bros."

"We don’t want to kill our game – we want to give it to the community who helped us get here."

Such is the tale of Night Street Games' first IP. Sad, but it will surely teach the studio a valuable lesson.
