LG has unveiled "the world’s first" 12-inch high-resolution stretchable display that can be extended, folded, and twisted without distortion or damage.
According to the company, it's the industry’s first display to achieve 20% stretchability, with a resolution of 100ppi and full-color RGB. It can be stretched up to 14 inches as it's based on a film-type substrate made of special silicon used in contact lenses.
The stretchable display offers a high level of durability to withstand significant external impacts and a resolution that competes with most existing monitors.
According to LG, the device can be attached to curved surfaces such as skin, clothing, furniture, cars, and planes, expanding its potential in industries including fashion, wearables, mobility, and gaming.
"We will successfully complete this project to enhance the competitiveness of Korean display technology while continuing to lead the industry’s paradigm shift," commented Soo-young Yoon, Executive Vice President and CTO at LG Display.
This is not the first flexible screen from LG: the company has been experimenting for some time now and presented its foldable and bendable displays earlier this year.
