July's Steam Hardware & Software Survey revealed a surprising fact: more Steam players use Linux than Apple's macOS. Of course, both of them can't really compete with Windows, which is installed on 96.21% of machines, but Mac has always followed Microsoft's OS as far as I know. Well, at least before one handheld giant joined the play.
As Ars Technica reported, most Linux users have Steam Deck's version of the system – Arch Linux-based SteamOS Holo. Thanks to this, Linux is now the second most-popular OS with 1.96%, leaving macOS behind with its 1.84%.
This might not be that surprising considering the Deck is always among the first in the Steam bestsellers chart, with Valve planning to sell 3 million devices by the end of 2023. The developers keep working on improving the system and making it as smooth sailing as possible. And I guess they're doing something right if the Linux numbers are to be believed.
The Survey also shows that NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 remains the most used GPU, followed by NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. As for VR headsets, Oculus Quest 2 is still number one, and Valve Index HMD is relatively close behind.
