Live2D Cubism Now Officially Compatible With Nintendo Switch 2

Interested developers must submit a request through the Nintendo Developer Portal.

Live2D Cubism SDK, which allows rendering models and animations created with Cubism Editor in applications, has long been available for various platforms, including Unity or Unreal Engine, and consoles such as the Nintendo Switch. According to AUTOMATON, the SDK is now also available for Nintendo Switch 2, allowing developers to integrate Live2D Cubism assets into their game projects. Unfortunately, rigging on the go won't be possible anytime soon.

Live2D Cubism is widely used to animate 2D images and has applications across a variety of fields, including VTuber models, visual novels, video projects, and more. Right now, developers interested in accessing Live2D Cubism SDK for Nintendo Switch 2 will need to submit inquiries through the Nintendo Developer Portal.

We've got plenty of Live2D projects on 80 Level, check out Ransom's eye, Poke's slime cat, Kuroama's hair, 3D-like halo by Sumireno, and Rubrta's fan:

Interestingly, while many 3D Artists strive to achieve stylized 2D aesthetics, a lot of Live2D Artists often try to create the illusion of 3D. Take a look at this 3D body model combined with a Live2D head by rukusu20XX, and this full-body 3D model created entirely within Live2D by Live2Doll:
