Ready At Dawn
Ready At Dawn, a developer best known for Echo VR, Lone Echo, Daxter, The Order: 1886, and several God of War games for PSP, has been shut down by Meta, which acquired the studio in 2020.
According to Android Central, Meta sent an internal memo to its employees in the middle of July, announcing cuts of 20% to Reality Labs' budget, which should be finalized by 2026. A Meta spokesperson said the cuts are not meant to "save money" but to make sure that Reality Labs stays within its new budget limits and Oculus Studios, Ready At Dawn's parent company, can make a "better long-term impact" in VR development.
Meta claims this doesn't mean wider cuts to first-party games on Quest. Ready At Dawn's employees are encouraged to apply for jobs at Oculus Studios and will receive severance pay.
Interestingly, it seems the studio had had some exciting plans before Meta bought it. Insider Shinobi602 shared that there had been a sequel to The Order discussed "with the engine already in place," and Ready At Dawn was going to "put everything into the gameplay experience next."
