"Lost Media" SpongeBob 2003 Matrix Parody Resurfaces Online In Full
For the first time in 23 years, the short can be watched in its entirety.
SpongeBob (Re-Hydrated) is a rare 2003 SpongeBob SquarePants short parodying The Matrix Reloaded, which originally aired as part of Nicktoons' on-air continuity while The Matrix Reloaded was still in theaters.
For years, the short was unavailable online in its complete form, but on May 20th, the official SpongeBob social media accounts uploaded the full version with its original audio intact, making it fully found 23 years after it first aired. However, the SpongeBob Fandom Wiki argues that this version appears to differ slightly from the original, featuring a green tint and no shot of SpongeBob lowering his glasses after two Patrick clones appear.
The short was shared as part of "From the Vault" social media series, which revisits older behind-the-scenes content and other shorts, such as Astrology with Squidward:
