Lush & Responsive Grass Field Powered By Custom Game Engine

Tested with AMD RDNA 2.

Panos Karabelas has shared his latest breakthrough in Spartan Engine, solving the issue of foliage that would thin out and fail to scale across large terrains. The results speak for themselves: the landscape now feels alive.

With these nice wind effects, the density is reportedly maintained even at scale, and performance remains steady at around 60 FPS. Players really need the ability to literally touch this grass.

Spartan Engine began as a personal learning project, but has since evolved into a growing community and a platform built to empower others to experiment and push the limits of game and rendering technology. It's a free and open-source Vulkan C++ game engine with a full game editor and tons of demos.

The Forest, showcased above, is the most advanced and demanding world. Inspired by Ghost of Tsushima, it features 64 million procedurally generated and fully simulated grass blades across a 64.1 km² world, densely populated with thousands of trees and rocks.
