Make Blender Cloth Retopology Easier with Retopo Planes' New Update

Nodes Interactive introduces tools to create cuts across connected patterns, split final retopology into separate mesh islands by patterns, and more.

Struggling with clothes retopology? Suffer no more with the latest update to Retopo Planes, Nodes Interactive's useful add-on for Blender that lets you work with cloth "without losing details or breaking a sweat."

Retopo Planes 1.5 introduces several new features: Planes Assist with Initialize Planes, which kicks off retopology instantly, Auto Fill – a tool that creates cuts across connected patterns automatically, Output Generated Planes, and more.

Moreover, Separate Patterns in Subdiv & Reproject will split the final retopology into separate mesh islands by patterns.

Aside from these prominent changes, Retopo Planes has seen other improvements:

  • New UI Debug – Mismatch Lines – for easier navigation around the retopo.
  • New debug material color modes (Patterns, Parts, Retopo Planes, None).
  • New debug to indicate if 'Simplify’ is turned on in 3DtoPatterns.
  • Scale GUI and Offset 3D Cloth (previously Slide Cloth) moved to the top to be more easily accessible.
  • Auto Density debug „Add more cuts” is gone since now Auto Density will work in every scenario.
  • Snapping will no longer merge vertices of planes together. Now Snapping (controlled by Snapping Distance) will only snap vertices to border of patterns. This should make this tool more stable – limiting the incidence of exploding mesh.
  • Upgraded look of modifier thanks to panels in new geometry nodes.
  • Fixed issue where single-face planes would influence density of edges on other planes.
  • Fixed issue where circular polyloop density would be influenced by overall density of rest of the retopo.

Nodes Interactive has plenty of add-ons to improve your Blender experience. For example, GSURFACE GEN is great for creating blockout meshes and easily manipulating 3D surfaces. You might also like Tear Painter, a tool that adds procedural wear and damage to your digital clothes and fabrics using brush strokes, and a plug-in that helps you easily wrap bandages, ropes, or fabric around models.
