Marathon Developers Warn They Will Take Down Unrevealed Datamined Content
But there's a safe place for model rips.
Bungie
Marathon has finally arrived, and, despite rumors, it's doing pretty well so far. Naturally, players are itching to go through its files, but Bungie saw it coming and released a statement, warning them that it will be issuing takedowns "for any datamined content that has not yet been revealed to players."
"Our goal is first and foremost to preserve the experience and surprises for all of our players," the development team said. However, datamined files that have already been revealed (character models, weapons, etc.) and the art created based on them will not be taken down.
So the models from the game seem to be safe to extract from the files, and if you want to do something fun with them, check out Carson Reed's Discord server for future model rips. He also addressed Bungie's message:
"While this does mean we can rip and do art, we still need time to get the stuff set up. From Server Slam to now was not enough time for proper materials but I do have some good news. Weapons mats should be done-ish and I’ll have a node group set up that you can append."
Reed is an awesome artist, so I expect a lot of great projects from him with Marathon's models. Here is a little taste of his style:
