Nick Baker unveiled some shader wizardry.
With such a vibrant, candy-like look, this take on the Item Box closely resembles the Mario Kart Wii version in particular. As Nick Baker shared, he created the model in Blender and handled the shaders in Godot Engine, which he really enjoys using for shader work.
If you're curious about how the effect was achieved, check out this brief breakdown, which covers the interior material, glow effects, and more:
You can find more of Nick's works on his X/Twitter page, and for those looking to get started with shader development in Godot, we recommend checking out The Godot Shaders Bible by Fabrizio Espindola, the author of The Unity Shaders Bible. It's an easy-to-follow guide packed with helpful tips, best practices, and ways to improve performance.
The book is still in progress and is being released one chapter at a time, in both English and Spanish. Part of the sales also helps support the Godot Engine.
