NetEase has officially unveiled Marvel Rivals Season 3: The Abyss Awakens with the release of a cinematic teaser trailer, following an accidental early reveal over the weekend. Launching on June 11, the new season introduces Phoenix, with Blade joining the roster shortly after. Players can also look forward to the usual seasonal updates, including new skins, team-up abilities, game modes, and more.
A key highlight this season is the revamped cosmetic system: players can now pair any MVP animation with any costume, encouraging more creative combinations of skins and animations. Season 3 also introduces a new feature called Ultimate VFX, exclusive to select Legendary costumes. This customization allows players to change the visual effects of a character's Ultimate ability during matches. While these changes are only visible to the player who has them equipped, they add a personalized touch to a character's most powerful skill.
Another cosmetic upgrade in Season 3 is the introduction of unique Lobby Backgrounds tied to specific costumes. When selecting a hero in the lobby, the background will now change based on the skin they're wearing:
