Mac Walters, the Lead Writer on Mass Effect 2 and 3 and former Production Director on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, has established a new AAA game studio, Worlds Untold, after departing from BioWare in 2023. The remote studio, located in Vancouver, Canada, is now under the umbrella of NetEase Games, a tech company based in Hangzhou, China.
"We're creating incredibly meaningful stories that we believe are best told and experienced through play. We are starting by crafting worlds that we all dream of discovering and then we'll put the player in the leading role of the most unforgettable adventures," said Walters.
Worlds Untold is focused on developing AAA action-adventure games with a strong emphasis on narrative and worldbuilding. The studio also aims to create franchises with "endless possibilities" and "IPs with depth and possibility that can't be contained in a single game, or even a single medium."
NetEase has also announced that Worlds Untold's debut project is an action-adventure game set in "a near future" and a world filled with mystery and exploration. The team at Worlds Untold includes industry veterans who have previously worked on titles, such as Metal Gear Solid, Halo, The Sims, Dragon Age, and Assassin's Creed. The studio has various roles available, welcoming those who are interested in contributing to the creation of narrative-rich and captivating games.
