Massive Effect: The BioWare Story Documentary Announced

The film was in production for two years before EA shut the studio down, and it will feature all three co-founders.

The story of BioWare's closure will be told in an upcoming documentary titled Massive Effect: The BioWare Story. As reported by Deadline, the film is written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Akash Sherman, best known for Clara, and co-produced by Canada's Fennessey Films and Score G Productions for Canada's Super Channel.

The film will follow the Canadian studio's story from its founding in 1995 by three newly graduated medical doctors, Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, and Augustine Yip, to its period of prosperity, when its fan-favorite RPGs sold 100 million copies. The studio is renowned for games such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Notably, the documentary has been in production for two years, since well before Electronic Arts announced BioWare's closure, which gives it a unique perspective on BioWare's history.

Massive Effect: The BioWare Story will feature the three founders, Muzyka, Zeschuk, and Yip, along with a range of major figures from the video game world, including Douglas Reilly, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games; John Riccitiello, former CEO of Electronic Arts; Casey Hudson, game director of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect; and many others. In a statement, BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk said they were honored and deeply touched that the production team sought their blessing for the documentary.
