The company is reimagining the series with Project Rene.
It's been 8 years since The Sims 4's release, so it's time for a new game in the series: Maxis announced a new game codenamed Project Rene at the Behind The Sims Summit. It must be said that Lyndsay Pearson, VP of Franchise Creative for The Sims, who shared the news, doesn't call the new game The Sims 5, but most players agree it's probably what it is.
With Project Rene, Maxis wants to reimagine The Sims and build "the next generation Sims Game and Creative Platform."
"This name [Project Rene] was chosen to be reminiscent of words like renaissance and rebirth to represent the team’s renewed commitment for The Sims’ bright future. Project Rene will fundamentally evolve how Sims think and behave, how players create and customize their worlds, and innovate in entirely new ways."
Pearson said the team will push tools even further when creating and customizing and allow players to collaborate on stories and creations with their friends across their favorite devices. Seems like we should expect some kind of multiplayer with cross-platform support.
Maxis also showed some early concepts of the game and its creative tools, which are revamped to lean toward The Sims 3 more in the way that you can change not only patterns and colors in Project Rene but also the shapes of the objects. You can even add pillows to your sofas by hand.
You probably shouldn't get too excited now as the game is in the very early stages of development, so there's no way we'll see it any time soon. The visuals can also change, especially since some fans noticed that Project Rene looks very similar to Paralives – an upcoming life simulator from Alex Massé.
