Metacritic Reveals the 10 Worst Video Games of 2025
Gamers and gaming journalists disagreed on which title deserved to be called the year's worst.
Ah, the Christmas season – the time of cheer, twinkling lights, jingling bells, and everyone on planet Earth preparing their Top-10 lists of virtually everything from the soon-to-be-concluded year. Joining the planet-wide trend is Metacritic, which recently offered a look at the 10 worst games of 2025, ranking the lowest-scoring releases on any platform in North America between January 1 and December 31.
Before we dive in, it's important to mention that no matter how closely you follow the gaming industry, chances are you'd struggle to recognize many of the titles Metacritic labeled as The Worst, which isn't really surprising, since every game with at least four reviews from "professional critics" – read "gaming journalists who may not have any actual gaming experience" – was eligible.
Which brings us to the second point – yes, the aggregator's rating is based on "critic" reviews and not on user scores (though you'll find the latter later on in this article).
With those two caveats mentioned, the list is opened by Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition with a rating of 45 points, followed by Scar-Lead Salvation, QUByte Classics: Glover, and Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator, each with 44 points, Tamagotchi Plaza with 43, Gore Doctor with 40 points securing a place in the middle of the list, followed by Spy Drops with 39 points.
Opening the Bottom-3 is Permanent Way Game's action RPG Blood of Mehran, which received 38 points from gaming journalists, followed by Nintendo's mobile social deduction strategy Fire Emblem Shadows in second-to-last place with 37 points. Claiming the dubious honor of Metacritic's Worst Game of 2025 is MindsEye, a widely lambasted action-adventure from Build a Rocket Boy, the studio led by former GTA producer Leslie Benzies, which scored just 28 points.
Interestingly, looking at user scores, the list of the 10 worst games of the past year is completely different, with more familiar names and even a different game taking the top – or, rather, bottom – spot.
If we throw the opinions of "critics" out of the window and only consider reviews from regular players, the 10th worst title of 2025 would be EA Sports College Football 26 with a score of 4.4/10, followed by Madden NFL 26 (3.9), Tales of the Shire (3.8), Sid Meier's Civilization VII, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour (all 3.7), EA Sports FC 26 (2.9), and Football Manager 26 (2.6).
With this approach, MindsEye would only rank as the second-worst game of the year with a 2.5/10 rating, nearly a full point higher than the game players rated the lowest of the low in 2025 – Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which scored just 1.6/10, placing it among the Top-50 worst-rated games of the past quarter century, below titles like CoD MWIII, Battlefield 2042, Fallout 76, NBA 2K20, Overwatch 2, and even Concord.
