See what's new in the latest version of the Maya rigging framework, along with the first official release of the Unreal Engine bridge.
Previously, we introduced mGear 5.0 Beta 6, which is now officially out with full support for Maya 2025 and 2026. To boost stability, performance, and long-term maintainability, all PyMEL dependencies were removed from the core framework and replaced by PyMaya, a lightweight custom wrapper built on top of maya.cmds and maya.OpenMaya.
The Shifter components have also been improved, along with dozens of bug fixes and usability enhancements. Updated documentation and new learning examples will be coming soon.
ueGear, a new bridge for connecting Maya and Unreal Engine pipelines, is now out of beta. You can now rebuild mGear rigs directly into Unreal's Control Rig, transfer animation, cameras, and sequences seamlessly. ueGear 1.0 is compatible with Unreal Engine versions 5.3 through 5.5.
