Microsoft and Blizzard Supposedly Form a Team to Make Mobile Games

The team is expected to comprise employees from King and Activision.

Microsoft

According to rumors, Windows and Activision Blizzard plan to form a small team inside Blizzard to develop the studio's mobile games. The team is claimed to be formed at King, a mobile game developer acquired by Blizzard in 2016 and best known for Candy Crush Saga.

The assumption is based on the fact that multiple of King's employees recently modified their LinkedIn profiles and switched from King to Blizzard. There's also information that the new team will focus on developing AA games inspired by existing Blizzard titles that are already available on PC and console. Whether new games will be supported exclusively for mobile platforms remains unclear. It is also noted that Microsoft decided to lean toward creating smaller teams for game development due to dramatically increasing prices in the industry.

Activision Blizzard is best known for World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Overwatch. The studio was acquired by Microsoft in October 2023 after two years of legal disputes. According to Holly Longdale, the Vice President and Executive Producer of World of Warcraft, the digital giant is "tremendously supportive" of the game company.
