Microsoft's Project Moorcroft Lets Xbox Game Pass Members Play Demos
The program will start within the next year.
Microsoft announced it was working on Project Moorcroft – a program that brings Xbox Game Pass members new, curated demos of upcoming games.
The games it will offer are what you'd expect to play at E3. The project is meant to bring that E3-like experience back.
"Why don’t we take Game Pass, and make it like the show floor?" said Sarah Bond, Microsoft’s head of gaming ecosystem. "Why don’t we make it possible for a developer to take a piece, a level of their game, release it into Game Pass, generate excitement for what’s coming, and also get that really valuable feedback as they’re tuning and preparing their game for launch."
This is a great opportunity for indie developers to show off their games – something they can't do this year as E3 has been canceled. Maybe the situation will improve next year, when the festival continues both online and in person, but for now, it's a fine alternative. What's more, developers can't get financial rewardout of it.
"We’ve set up the program and structured it so that developers actually get financial compensation for the game that actually benefits them financially, and also get the benefit of the great feedback as well," explained Bond.
Project Moorcroft will begin rolling out next year, first focused on independent developers, which will be able to see how their demos perform and be compensated.
