According to a recent report, Microsoft will not release Windows 11 24H2 updates for computers with some of the Ubisoft games installed, such as Assassin's Creed, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

After installing the 24H2 update, some users have reported encountering various issues when running the games – they crashed right after launching or displayed a black screen a few minutes after loading. For instance, one of the reports describes loading issues of Assasin's Creed Origins, Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 5, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora:

Another player claims that Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar crash within less than a minute after launch:

Microsoft has confirmed the issue and released a status update:

"After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.

The affected games are:

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla;
  • Assassin's Creed Origins;
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey;
  • Star Wars Outlaws;
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora."

According to Microsoft, Ubisoft released a temporary mitigation for Star Wars Outlaws addressing the problem but there might still be some performance issues. Windows creator also shared that they had applied a compatibility hold on devices with these games installed. However, the devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2, via the Windows Update release channel.
