Check out Midnight Mercenaries – a free fast-paced action game released by a small group of enthusiasts. The fan-made project offers the same dynamic gameplay and top-down view you know from Hotline Miami and blends it with the characters and class system from Team Fortress 2.
You'll be given a choice of nine classes with two subclasses – each of them having its unique skills and weapons. The game also offers the ability to pass levels in different ways encouraging players to repeatedly play it through.
In Midnight Mercenaries, you'll encounter a number of predictable yet interesting AI opponents that can be deceived, or, for example, distracted by extraneous noise. Apart from enemies, you'll also face multiple obstacles like explosive barrels, destructible walls, bottomless pits, locked doors, and conveyor belts.
The game promises a non-linear storyline and access to a deadly arsenal including melee weapons and hitscan-based guns, as well as character-specific special weapons. It also encourages some fresh decisions that directly affect the usual mechanics.
The game was developed by a group of enthusiasts led by a blogger and game designer GermanPeter. According to developers, it took five years to finish the project. Learn more and download the game for free here.
