Hypixel Studios, the promising game developer acquired by Riot, announced its upcoming closure and the cancellation of its long-awaited title. The studio has been developing Hytale, a Minecraft-inspired block sandbox with RPG elements.
The news was shared by Noxy, CEO at Hypixel Studios, in a recent X/Twitter post. The executive noted that neither Riot nor the studio itself wanted the closure to happen. As for the reasons behind the decision, Noxy shared that the team encountered development issues: "We couldn't bring Hytale to life in a way that truly delivered on its promise."
"Game development is brutally hard – especially when you're trying to build something original that speaks to a creative, passionate community. Over time, as our vision evolved and the genre matured around us, the bar kept rising. Our technical ambitions grew more complex, and even after a major reboot of the game engine, the team found that Hytale still wasn't as far along as it needed to be. It became clear we’d need a lot more time to get it to a place where it could support the ambitious vision for the game."
The executive also thanked the studio's team, Riot, and the community for their support. On a more positive note, Noxy confirmed that the Hypixel server on Minecraft will remain unaffected by the studio's closure and the game's cancellation. Since the server operates independently of Hypixel Studios, it will continue running as usual.
