Arthurtilly is working on a robust voxel engine.
This is a showcase of a Minecraft-style voxel engine built by Arthurtilly entirely within the Super Mario 64 engine, and it runs on actual Nintendo 64 hardware. It uses multithreading to generate terrain and meshes efficiently across multiple frames, allowing for smooth performance without any lag.
The engine currently features an infinite world, support for various block types and shapes (with easy extensibility), multiple biomes with unique noise settings and seamless transitions, early support for fluids like water and lava, and capabilities for smooth lighting and ambient occlusion.
Future updates are planned to include flowing water and lava, an enhanced lighting system complete with a day/night cycle, and full support for saving and loading worlds, even on the console. Also, terrain features like trees and vegetation to enrich the environment, along with implementing a functional inventory system.
