Mistake Creeps into Mortal Kombat 1 Scream Double Knife Wipe

Mortal Kombat 1 is known for its gory finishers, and you can see another one in a new teaser of the Khaos Reigns DLC, which introduces 6 new characters. One of those is Ghostface from Scream, and its Fatality gameplay contains not only lots of blood but also an animation mistake.

At the very end, the two Ghostfaces perform the iconic double knife wipe from Scream 6, but one of the characters holds the weapon wrong and thus wipes the air instead.

I first thought it was a reference to something, but NetherRealm Studios' Senior Animator Brad Faucheux confirmed that it was "one of the errors with rushing and marketing trailers that somehow got overlooked." He promised that the knife would be properly cleaned in the game.

The double knife wipe is not the only reference in the video. YouTube user brendan1470 noticed that the eye stab was performed by Sam Carpenter in Scream 6. Sidney bumped into Stu similarly in the first movie, the Ghostface reflecting in the eye happened with Sidney's school principal.
