Following the announcement of the unofficial GTA 5 Nintendo Switch port development, the team of modders at Superstar South has showcased a game demo running on the console in handheld mode.
Initially launched in 2013 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, before eventually being ported to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, and receiving PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions a couple of years ago, Grand Theft Auto 5 has never got a native handheld console port.
While the game is over a decade old now, there are no plans for a Switch version, although as unrealistic as this is in theory, despite the difference between the general aesthetics of Rockstar and Nintendo's products, with the latter aiming for more inclusion, they have a history of working together as Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was released on Nintendo DS in the past.

What you see in the video on top of the page is two minutes of Grand Theft Auto 5 indoor scene running on Switch in handheld mode with no overclock. This quite impressive project is based on the game's source code which was reportedly leaked last year and is circulating online, despite the measures Rockstar had taken in the past.
There are multiple reasons for a device to struggle running an older game aside from having a weak CPU, and it'd be pointless to deny Switch's performance is far from ideal with the unstable frame rate, and of course, it's only an indoor scene.
Back in March, Superstar South announced they are working on an unofficial Grand Theft Auto 5 port on Switch. The anticipation is surely high, however, Rockstar has a history of issuing copyright claims and dealing with leakers and unauthorized projects, so it's very unlikely the project will see the light.
