Mortal Kombat 1 Might Not Receive Any New Content

More insiders have verified the earlier rumor.

NetherRealm Studios

Following the earlier rumor, which appeared around the end of November, that Mortal Kombat 1 pack 3 and the second story expansion had been canceled, more insiders have come forward to verify it. According to the new information they provide, the game might not receive any new content in the future.

One of them is Twitter user thethiny, whose previous information had been proven reliable. After reaching out to three insiders, thethiny wrote:

Yet one thing to point out here is that different sources seem to have different lists of characters from the KP3 (Kombat Pack 3). It's believed that "someone at NRS is giving employees wrong information." Some suggest that this might be a strategy from the studio to quickly figure out who the "sources" are as soon as the list is made public.

With all these rumors flying around, developer NetherRealm Studios has not yet made any official clarification, nor does publisher Warner Bros. Games, except that Ed Boon, Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat, replied to a fan who wrote on Bluesky "Hope everybody is okay with all those leaks." Boon's ambiguous reply, "I appreciate the kind words," was neither a confirmation nor a denial.

When the DLC was announced back in July, Boon promised that fans would embrace "an exciting second year of content that will continue the cinematic story, add more fighters, and bring back popular game features." This becomes less possible at this moment, as the expansion sold poorly and received mostly negative reviews, with 29% of the 95 reviews being positive on Steam
