Mortal Kombat Remaster Teased by Team Behind the MKHD Fan Project

The seemingly AI-generated image in the teaser tweet has been met with heavy criticism.

The iconic game franchise Mortal Kombat may be next in line for a remaster. Eyeballistic CEO, Joe Tresca, sparked intrigue as he dropped a hint about "something special" his studio is cooking up via Twitter in late June.

This news brought excitement to some, but the seemingly AI-generated image immediately caught people's attention, as obviously Scorpion and Johnny "stand out" against the background. Some comments like, "I just don’t want AI trash in my fighting games".

Today, just a few hours ago, Tresca posted another related tweet, saying "Who can forget the game that started it all?" The accompanying image still appeared AI-generated or Photoshop-ed at least, but this new tweet narrowed down the scope of the studio's current project. It seems the "something special" mentioned in the previous post could be related to the original game, or potentially the trilogy.

A comment under this post shared a video by YouTuber Dynasty, a massive Mortal Kombat fan, who also speculated about what Eyeballistic might be developing.

As we wait for more information to be unveiled, either by the studio or from the IP holder Warner Bros., we might take a bit more time to know more about Eyeballistic Game Studio. According to their official site

" We're the team behind the MKHD fan project where we infamously appealed to series co-creator, Ed Boon, to remake the original MK games in HD! Though MK IP owner Warner Bros. initially gave our team the green light to work on the project, they abruptly changed their minds based on evidence it might cannibalize sales of their main line 2019 MK game thus ending Eyeballistic's involvement."

So, it's possible that they are currently revisiting and continuing the project they had to abandon a few years ago, striving to bring it to fruition.
