Move's New Markerless Motion Capture System Genesis Promises Cinema-Quality Imaging

This is a shift from the consumer-focused Move Pro to a dedicated enterprise ecosystem.

Move, a company focused on motion capture and 3D animation, unveiled Genesis, its new high-quality markerless motion capture system, delivering data quality "comparable to optical systems alongside the reliability, security, and integration required by professional VFX, AAA gaming, and creative studios."

This is a "foundational strategic shift" from the consumer-focused Move Pro to a dedicated enterprise ecosystem. Genesis has already replaced Move Pro on the company's site, replacing action cameras with Z-Cam integration.

"The move to Genesis signifies a departure from "best-effort" consumer hardware toward professional-grade precision. By replacing action cameras with Z-Cam integration, Genesis gains access to cinema-quality imaging — delivering exceptional dynamic range, colour accuracy, and sharpness that consumer hardware simply cannot match. Critically, Z-Cam's hardware-level genlock and timecode support enables frame-perfect synchronisation across the entire camera array, eliminating the timing drift that can compromise motion data quality."

Aiming to improve accuracy, Genesis transitions from human-based calibration to a high-precision checkerboard calibration method, which detects mathematically exact reference points across the calibration pattern.

"The system establishes camera positions and lens parameters with high accuracy. This repeatable, operator-independent process ensures that every calibration meets the same exacting standard, whether setting up a compact studio volume or a large-scale multi-camera production stage, and can be reliably reproduced across sessions without degradation in quality."

Genesis also moves processing from the cloud to local NVIDIA GPUs to ensure your data security. "Genesis marks a fundamental evolution in architecture - transitioning from a web-based workflow to a dedicated desktop application built specifically for studio environments."

Moreover, Genesis introduces an integrated pre-visualisation capability: during capture, operators can monitor a live pre-viz of the motion data in real time. Then, the pre-viz can be immediately replayed for on-set review. This speeds up production and allows for flexibility.

"Genesis is built to inhabit the modern studio. Through a core partnership with Peel Capture, Move now integrates directly into existing centralized workflows, allowing operators to trigger Genesis alongside supplementary mocap and witness camera systems with timecode synchonisation. Furthermore, Genesis unlocks the ability to ingest RGB or Grayscale video from existing third-party motion capture systems. This allows studios to transform their legacy hardware into a cutting-edge markerless volume without the need for a total infrastructure overhaul."
