NetEase Invests in Ex-CD Project Red Developers' Rebel Wolves

The studio, however, will retain full control of the dark fantasy RPG it is working on.

Rebel Wolves, a game development studio founded by a team of CD Projekt Red veterans back in February, announced that it secured a strategic investment from NetEase, a Chinese tech and game company.

The investment, the exact sum of which remains undisclosed, makes NetEase a minority shareholder of Rebel Wolves and enables the team to focus more on developing their Unreal Engine 5-powered AAA dark fantasy RPG. According to the announcement, the studio will remain independent and will retain full creative control of its IP.

"Having one of the leading global game companies get behind our vision is a great confidence boost and validation for the entire team at Rebel Wolves," commented Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Rebel Wolves CEO and The Witcher 3’s Ex-Director. "Funding provided by NetEase was the last missing piece needed to go full throttle. With resources available to build a world-class AAA game, we can now focus on what matters most: development."
