This is a step to building a world-class games studio to make original games "with no ads and no in-app purchases."
Netflix is opening a new games studio in Helsinki, Finland, with Marko Lastikka, who has previously worked at Zynga and Electronic Arts, as the studio director.
The company calls the decision another step in its vision to build "a world-class games studio that will bring a variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games – with no ads and no in-app purchases"
This is the first studio Netflix will build from scratch. Earlier, it bought Next Games (Stranger Things: Puzzle tales, The Walking Dead: No Man's Land), Night School Studio (Oxenfree, Afterparty), and Boss Fight Entertainment (Dungeon Boss, myVEGAS Bingo).
The company hasn't shared what the first game of the studio will be yet.
