Netflix Reveals First Trailer for Stop-Motion Animated Film I Am Frankelda

The animated feature is a Mexican dark fantasy horror musical filmed under the guidance of Guillermo del Toro.

Netflix has released the first trailer for its stop-motion animated feature I Am Frankelda, coming to the streaming platform on June 12.

The animated film is a Mexican dark fantasy horror musical. It is directed by a team of Arturo Ambriz and Roy Ambriz with Guillermo del Toro's guidance. The Ambriz' Cinema Fantasia studio is best known for producing the Adult Swim series titled Women Wearing Shoulder Pads.

I Am Frankelda is set in 19th-century Mexico and follows the story of a gifted young writer who journeys into her subconscious and faces the characters from her own spooky stories. The animated film is based on the directors' five-episode show Frankelda's Book of Spooks, which went live on Cartoon Network Latin America in 2021. The show was an anthology hosted by a ghost writer named Frankelda. The film is set before the events of the series, showing the viewers the original story of Frankelda.

The film features Beto Petiches as animation director, Irene Melis and Fernanda G. Manzur as directors of photography, and an original score by Kevin Smithers. The voice cast includes Mireya Mendoza, Arturo Mercado Jr., and Luis Leonardo Suarez.

Neflix also unveiled a poster for the film:
