Netflix's The Witcher: Season 4 Debuts to a 20% Rotten Tomatoes Score

"This season feels like a parody of what The Witcher is supposed to be."

As expected by most, given fans' reactions to its official trailer released a few weeks ago, the fourth season of Netflix's The Witcher TV adaptation has premiered to widespread disapproval and terrible review scores, with regular viewers and critics alike expressing their displeasure in Rotten Tomatoes scores.

As of this writing, Season 4 sits at a dismal user score of just 20%, lower than Season 1's 46% and Season 2's 54%, and equal to Season 3, which also has 20%. When it comes to critic scores, the situation looks even more bleak for Netflix, as even critics – usually no strangers to giving high marks to mediocre works – lambasted the show's continuation, awarding it a 55% score, the lowest of any season of The Witcher.

As for the "what went wrong?" part, reviews highlight two main reasons behind the overwhelmingly negative reception: Season 4's writing and poor character decisions, which contradicted the franchise's lore, clashed with The Witcher's tone, and made little sense from a storytelling standpoint, and miscasts – most notably the replacement of Geralt of Rivia's actor from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth.

While most reviewers acknowledged Hemsworth as a capable actor, they argued he lacked Cavill's charisma and couldn't portray the legendary character as effectively, an issue made even more glaring by the weak writing. As one reviewer succinctly put it, "This season feels like a parody of what The Witcher is supposed to be," a sentiment echoed throughout nearly every review.
