Netflix Wants To Publish More Mobile Games Free To Its Subscribers

The company says it's in the early stages of further expanding into games.

Netflix shared first details on how they plan to expand into the video games sector, and the first step is to bring mobile games to its subscribers. The company's Q2 earnings report states company is in the process of "early stages of further expanding into games."

Previously, the giant released a series of mobile games based on Stranger Things and it appears that they want to publish more titles that "primarily focused on mobile devices".

Netflix COO Greg Peters said these games would not have in-game purchases or ads, according to Polygon

"We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV," Netflix said. "Since we are nearly a decade into our push into original programming, we think the time is right to learn more about how our members value games."

For those of you who missed the news, Netflix has also hired former EA and Facebook exec Mike Verdu to lead games as vice president of game development.
