Today, Nintendo has announced its acquisition of Shiver Entertainment, the Miami-based studio established in 2012 and renowned for porting popular games like Hogwarts Legacy to the console and developing Mortal Kombat 1. The gaming giant will be purchasing 100% of the outstanding shares from Embracer Group, making Shiver a fully-owned subsidiary of Nintendo.

In the Notice of Acquisition which explains the purpose of the action, Nintendo says:

“By welcoming Shiver’s experienced and accomplished development team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources for porting and developing software titles,”

Looking ahead, Shiver's mission will remain unchanged, with their focus "remain the same, continuing commissions that port and develop software for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch."

Before being acquired, Shiver was under the Embracer Group, a company that has grappled with numerous controversies in recent years. In March, after selling Gearbox to Take-Two for $460 million, Embracer announced that their restructuring was complete, and they were committed to making "better games."
This restructuring, initiated the previous year, led to the closure of multiple studios and the cancellation of several game projects, affecting over 1400 employees. Further downsizing and studio shutdowns followed in September, exacerbating the situation. To top it all off, last October, Standard & Poor's removed Embracer from their Top Stocks List.

The exact amount Nintendo paid for this acquisition remains undisclosed. For more details about the deal, you can refer to the Notice of Acquisition here.
