The company has denied claims that it is in discussions with Japanese authorities regarding the matter.
Nintendo has rejected the claims that it was in talks with the Japanese government to lobby against generative AI.
Brought to the public attention by Gamerant, the company took to X/Twitter and specified the absence of contact with Japanese state authorities despite recent online discussions: "Contrary to recent discussions on the internet, Nintendo has not had any contact with the Japanese government about generative AI." The company added that it will follow its strategy regarding protecting the IPs: "Whether generative AI is involved or not, we will continue to take necessary actions against infringement of our intellectual property rights."
The talk about the game company speaking out against generative AI evolved from the words of the Japanese politician Asano Satoshi, who claimed that Nintendo was trying to impose restrictions on the use of the AI systems to protect its IPs. The politician later deleted the tweet with the information and apologized for posting a tweet containing incorrect information.
Also, it was recently reported that Nintendo would have major structural changes, as Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser announced his retirement. As for the protection of intellectual property, one of the company's latest cases is the one with Palworld, with Nintendo claiming that the latter had allegedly implemented a patented gameplay mechanic.
