Nintendo Switch Sales Reach 139 Million

Nintendo has published its financial report for the nine-month period ended on December 31, revealing that the Switch sales reached 139,36 million. 32 million of those have been sold in Japan only, which means it needs less than 1 million to surpass Nintendo DS and become the best-selling console in the country, as noted by Nintendo Life. Overall, DS has sold 154 million units globally, so Switch has some catching up to do.

During these nine months, the entire Nintendo Switch family has sold 13.74 million units, declining 7.8% year-on-year. From this number, 3.40 million units go to Nintendo Switch, 8.17 million units to Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, and 2.18 million units to Nintendo Switch Lite. 

The Switch sales are not the only ones Nintendo can be proud of. Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a relatively new game that was released in October, has already been bought 11.96 million times. In November, a mere month after its launch, it became the fastest-selling game in the series.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has reached 20.28 million copies sold, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 6.79 million, and Pikmin 4 – 3.33 million. 

Overall, Nintendo has sold 163.95 million software units, which is 4.7% lower year-over-year. Digital sales in the third quarter of its fiscal year increased by 11.7% year-on-year to 346.4 billion yen ($2.33 billion) and accounted for 48.1% of total software sales.

As for the fourth quarter, the company has already launched Another Code: Recollection on January 19 and is planning to release Mario vs. Donkey Kongon on February 16 and Princess Peach: Showtime! on March 22.

Nintendo has revised its forecast and now predicts net sales of 1,630 billion yen ($10.9 billion) and 15.5 million Switch copies sold.
