One of Most Popular Roguelikes Ever Hits New Player Record 12 Years After Release
This Steam Sale is a huge win for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
You've definitely at least heard of The Binding of Isaac, one of the top roguelikes in the world, created by Edmund McMillen. Rebirth, a sequel to the Flash original, was released in 2014 and has recently experienced a true rebirth: the Steam Summer Sale put a ridiculously low price tag on it (as well as many other games), which helped the game set a new record – 130,954 concurrent players on Steam.
If you are still in doubt, don't worry: once you start, you won't be able to stop. But I will tell you about this unique experience to awaken your thirst for good roguelikes.
The Binding of Isaac features a little boy who travels through floors, killing monsters and bosses with very creative designs with his tears (or other... stuff). When you think you've completed the game, destroying the final enemy, congratulations! The tutorial is done and you need to go deeper. There is a reason players spend thousands of hours there, trust me.
The best part of all this, the reason for the crazy in-game time, is the many items you find and how different they make each run. And if you get lonely traversing the basements, invite some friends – I'm sure at least a couple of them have the game.

If you decide to explore this wonder of a game, be sure to buy all DLCs: believe me, you'll want them to access the thousands of items and dozens of synergies, new characters and mechanics. (Also, giving the Bible a read would add some extra spice to its endless references, but that's just my opinion.)

Right now, TBOI is the 6th most-played game on Steam, running ahead of Slay the Spire 2, GTA 5, Path of Exile 2, and the fresh co-op hit MECCHA CHAMELEON.
Fans of McMillen's vision should also check out his latest feline RPG, Mewgenics.
