OpenAI Introduces a New Model for Generating 3D Images

The AI is capable of creating simple models in just a couple of minutes.

OpenAI, the developer of DALL-E and ChatGPT, has announced the release of a brand-new AI model capable of generating simple 3D objects in just a couple of minutes on a single GPU. Powered by Point-E, the company's system for generating 3D point clouds from complex prompts, the new AI works by generating a single synthetic view using a text-to-image diffusion model and then producing a 3D point cloud based on the generated image using a second diffusion model. According to the team, their model is "one to two orders of magnitude faster" than other similar AIs and offers "a practical trade-off for some use cases."
