Ephere showcased some exciting new features coming to its artist-friendly, all-in-one hair, fur, and feather solution for Maya.
Ephere, the developer behind Ornatrix, a powerful hair and fur editing suite integrated into major DCC software like Maya, which enables user-friendly creation, modeling, management, animation, and rendering of CG hair, fur, feathers, and other scattered elements such as foliage, has shared a series of teasers for the upcoming update to the plug-in.
In the video above, you can see the new clump manipulators coming to Ornatrix Maya V5 beta. These allow you to adjust and fine-tune the shape of individual or groups of clumps directly in the viewport using standard transform manipulators. You can add as many (or as few) knots as needed, with smooth interpolation for the rest. The feature also supports non-uniform scaling and rotation.
A new texture brush in the upcoming release can paint images directly onto the hair with fine control, while the new curved sinks feature looks like it will significantly speed up the process of creating hair roots along cornrows:
