Pocketpair has surprised its fans by announcing a crossover between its hit open-world survival game Palworld and Terraria, a beloved action-adventure sandbox game, coming in 2025. Developers have teased that they will share more information soon.
Just as Palworld’s community manager Bucky has already predicted fans’ reaction, “Bet you didn't see this one coming,” many players were gladly surprised by this collaboration between two of their favorite games, shouting out “no way” to express their shock and excitement.
The year 2024 has been one filled with ups and downs for Palworld. The game’s launch was record-breaking, sensational, or stunning, whatever you’d like to call it, with its all-time concurrent player count reaching 2.1 million. However, that soon declined to only around 30% of the peak after around a month, leaving some calling the game “dead.” The absence of nominations for the game at this year’s The Game Awards makes some players believe the history Palworld created has become bygone.
The bitterness brought by the reduced player base is something the team tries to digest. And making it harder for the developer is the case with Nintendo, which might not be something easy for a small team to handle.
“Nothing is going to take Palworld down,” said one fan. This seems to be a cheering-up message to the developer, who is currently defending against a lawsuit filed this September by the giant Japanese gaming company for patent infringement. If the studio loses the lawsuit, it may be forced to stop selling the game in Japan.
With the upcoming team-up with Terraria, Palworld is set to be brought to a wider audience, which might help offset the consequences of losing in the court.
