Payday 3 Requires Online Connection to Play

Fans are not happy about this.

If you're looking forward to playing Payday 3 solo, you should know that you will still need to have internet access for this, apparently. In a recent live stream, Starbreeze's global brand director Almir Listo pretty much confirmed an online connection will be required to play the game, even for a single player.

"You will be able to play by yourself, but I do believe you will have to have a connection in order to play because it’s made in Unreal Engine and has cross-progression and cross-play, I do believe we need you to be online."

As you might have guessed, fans were not happy to hear this. It's understandable, considering that you can just say goodbye to your money if the game shuts down, whether you have a physical copy or not.

Some players say they'll cancel their pre-orders, others straight up refuse to purchase Payday 3, and the funniest (or saltiest) users come up with memes about it.

The first two games in the Payday series were developed by Overkill Software, but Starbreeze bought the rights back in 2016. Listo called the upcoming installment "the evolution of the Payday franchise", and the team later shared that it will support cross-play and cross-progression.
